Industry Update: Recent March 2016 PageRank Update

Paul: Hi, my name is Paul Kienker and I am the Operations Manager here at Clix. Today I wanted to give you a little bit of insight into our inbound marketing campaigns.

Google rolled out an update today that makes PageRank no longer publicly available to companies like Clix. 

Now, what does that mean to you and your campaign? PageRank is one of the primary factors, or actually used to be one of the primary factors considered when evaluating your websites worth when it came to organic search results. Named after Larry Page, who is one of the founders of Google, PageRank actually was one of the primary drivers for getting Google and its search engine off the ground and to beat out Yahoo.

Today, PageRank is no longer as valuable as it used to be. In fact, over time it has become more and more devalued because of all of the other variables that are involved with inbound marketing today such as content strategy, on-page optimization, Local SEO, and many many other things. 

So with this, I am going to give you some insight into our campaigns. We use PageRank as a way to filter backlinks. Backlinks serve a purpose of trying to improve your visibility in search.

The better the backlink, the better the vote that you have for your website. At the end of the day, Google takes a lot of stock into that vote. And, with PageRank being less and less of a factor and ultimately today being removed from the public eye, we no longer can rely on that.

So just in case you’ve heard of this update, don’t worry. At the end of the day this will not impact your campaign negatively whatsoever. Our strategists will still work with the variables given to us and associated with each backlink that our software provides and we’ll do things a little bit differently, but at the end of the day, like I said, you don’t have to worry about one thing.
