Robert: Hi, I’m Robert. I’m a Digital Marketing Strategist at Clix. You’ve probably gotten a lot of my emails before and never see my face. This is what I look like.

Today I’m going to be talking to you about SSL certificates and HTTPS.

An SSL certificate is an extra layer of security for your website. You’ll know that a website has one of these because instead of HTTP in front of the URL, you’ll see HTTPS. All this means is that this website has gone through the trouble of getting an SSL certificate and they have an extra layer of security or encryption when it comes to exchanging information.

What this means for you is that when people submit information through your website, there’s an extra layer of security for them.

This also means that Google will potentially see your site in a little more favorable light because a year or so ago, they released a statement saying that they preferred HTTPS sites over HTTP. The reason’s very simple, an extra layer of security.

You don’t have to change how you get to your website when you have HTTPS. Everything will automatically redirect.

One advantage with hosting with Clix is that we are going to start rolling out HTTPS for all the sites that we host. Starting with yours.
